The surge in the materials used for the creation of jewellery has given the buyers with a lot of options. But the most interesting thing about these new products is the increased interest of men to accessorize. Most men prefer to accessorize with a signature ring. Tungsten, cobalt chrome and titanium wedding ring is now apparently competing with those made of platinum and silver. The similar appearance and affordable price of these alternative metals have helped tem save a lot of money.
But even with such alternative metals the competition is tight. Tungsten carbide rings have been marketed as very durable and tough due to which their sales have almost doubled since last year. While some industry experts continue to argue over the fact that tungsten carbide rings are not as strong as projected. Actually, tungsten is a metal matrix composite and not a metal in itself. It is fairly hard and its hardness can be compared with that of sapphire, but since it is not a true metal tungsten carbide rings cannot tolerate sharp shocks or bend. With the creation of cobalt chrome rings, many people argue that buying cobalt chrome rings is better that buying tungsten carbide rings.
Cobalt chrome is actually a member of the stainless steel family and can be considered as an innovation. It has the lustre that can be compared with platinum and is roughly four times harder. Also cobalt chrome rings can withstand scratches, sharp shocks and corrosion. These rings can also be resized easily while tungsten carbide rings cannot be.
